Want To Learn About Wallapop

Want To Learn About Wallapop

Uncategorized

In September 2014, I was with my girlfriend and we were walking on the street when she told me about a new mobile application that all of her friends on Facebook were using called, Wallapop.

I suppose that anything that has to do with Facebook I generally tune out because I am not a big Facebook user.

While walking we ran into a mutual friend who again told me about this great new mobile application called, Wallapop.

Once again, I really didn’t pay any attention.

It took me nearly one year later to actually check out this thing called Wallapop. Wallapop is based in Barcelona, Spain and it is essentially a mobile flea-market.

In October 2015, my girlfriend had just returned from visiting her family abroad and she had some luggage that she wanted to just throw out, because it got slightly damaged during the trip and in our new flat we really didn’t have any space for the two over sized pieces of luggage.

I am not sure what made me think of that mobile app, one year later but I did.

I said, “Don’t throw that out, what was the name of the application you were talking about to buy and sell things?”

It was super easy to use, I just downloaded the app, and linked it to, you guessed it, my Facebook account, and I was up and running.

I took your pictures. And placed two really simple ads:

Green Luggage:

An almost new luggage used only once. Is in good condition. Bought for 25€ in June 2015.

Pink Luggage:

An almost new luggage used only once. Is in good condition. Bought for 25€ in June 2015.

That was it.

Within a day I had sold both pieces of luggage for a total of 21€.

What I really love about Wallapop, is that I didn’t have to mail anything, link my Paypal account, load the luggage in my non-existent car. The buyers come to your house and pay in cash.

It’s like a virtual garage sale without the Penny Saver Ads or signs to to be posted to attract people to your house.

The app allows buyers and sellers to see products and sellers within a mile of your house. As you scroll down the ads, the distance from your house increases.

It’s absolutely brilliant.

And as I mentioned before you don’t have to do anything.

I have bought and sold on eBay and online and its not as streamline and super easy as Wallapop.

Best of all you can sell all that stuff in your house that you don’t use and that is just taking up space and convert it into cash. Its like a virtual garage sale meets pawn shop meets ebay all in one.

We recently moved into a new flat, and it was semi-furnished.

So I have decided to use the money from the sale of unused stuff in our house and use the money to buy the necessary furniture we need.

I sold a desk lamp for 15€ and bought a semi new Ikea dresser for 18€, the dresser cost us 3€. And the seller delivered the dresser to our front door, literally.

The other day my girlfriend found a mini end table for 8 euros, I was able to barter the price to 6 euros, and they delivered it to our house free of charge. When I saw the table it was all wrapped up in Ikea packing tape, it had never even been used.

Our new flat was furnished with full size futon bed, dining room table and chairs, two dressers, one large Wardrobe closet, a new standing lamp, a television table, a night stand, a shoe closet, and bookcase, all for 250 euros.

I seriously believed that applications like Wallapop are the future especially in this day and age of a fast and furious world economy that is constantly changing. Wallapop and other like minded mobile applications allows people to trade, buy and sell goods and services from people local in their area that is super simple and where your don’t have to ship anything or are charged a commission.

As an advent fan of eBay, Amazon, Fiverr, I can honestly say that Wallapop has a distinct advantage. It is catering to a need that the others are not.

Running and building a business can be an adventure.

I sometimes like to compare the experience of being a business owner, to that of climbing a mountain.

Like climbing  mountain there are the proverbial ups and downs. But the most important aspects are staying the course one step at a time, being disciplined, proper preparation, and good resources and a great team.

Wherever life’s journey takes you and whatever roads you choose to travel I am certain that it will be the experience of a lifetime.

And running a small business is like the ultimate adventure.

There are no safety nets. No guaranteed paycheck that comes every two weeks. There are no employee benefits or perks either.

There is however the freedom to create something that you are passionate about without restrictions or limitations.

I wanted to speak with someone who had first hand knowledge of this in a world that has become somewhat synonymous with the whole entrepreneurial spirit.

WordPress and small business go hand in hand.

The amount of small to medium sized businesses that use WordPress as their main website platform is astounding.

Here are some interesting facts from W3Techs.com, in a study published on 20 February 2015.

WordPress is used by 23.4% of all the websites, that is a content management system market share of 60.7%.

WordPress is used by 60.7% of all the websites whose content management system we know.
WordPress is used by 57.1% of all the websites whose content management system we know and that rank in the top 1,000,000.

It’s fair to say that WordPress is a staple in the small business community.

Marketing is forming relationships with people so they know, like, and trust you.

The biggest mistake I made was wasting time trying to learn how to do something when I could have paid someone for the task and focus my energy on projects that brought in an income.

What opportunities do you see that you don’t have time to take advantage of that maybe others might look into?

Basically everything If it’s not related to creating content for my podcast, I don’t have time for it right now.

Not focusing on the right things.

Discipline to not take on too many projects and focus on one thing until it’s completely finished.

How long would it take you today to mentor somebody to your same level of success?

Tough question. At least a year, maybe more.

In one sentence or phrase how would you dene success?

Success isn’t defined by how much money you make; it’s defined by the number of people that you can help reach their goals.

Who are your mentors?

I have a small mastermind group that we meet weekly and we talk about each other’s businesses. I also see some of my friends who have podcasts as my mentors as I rely on their guidance each week on their podcasts.

What is the most important book you have read?

Most important book is the Bible. It’s filled with advice for running both your business and your life.

What was the most difcult decision you had to make?

My toughest business decision was to close my business and accept a job at Automattic.

Was that the best decision you made?

Absolutely.

And what question should I have asked you, why is it important and what is your answer?

How do you balance your work / home life? I take my home life very seriously. I try my best to be done with all computer work between 4-5p and I like to limit my technology use (tvs, phones, computers) in the evenings. My goal is to be screen free two hours before I plan on going to bed.

Thanks Dustin!!!
I definitely appreciate your time and in doing thin interview!

The other day I noticed that my laptop was running a little slower than normal. So with some changes to my reg files and cleaning out the Temp and Prefetch folders I still noticed it was a still running strangely. I then loaded Norton Power Eraser (which is focused on crimeware) and voila my laptop was as good as new.

Malware is definitely something most people are aware of, however crimeware was something completely new to me. Crimeware is a class of malware designed specifically to automate cybercrime.

According to Wikipedia; “Crimeware (as distinct from spyware and adware) is designed to perpetrate identity theft through social engineering or technical stealth in order to access a computer user’s online accounts at financial services companies and online retailers for the purpose of taking funds from those accounts or completing unauthorized transactions that enrich the thief controlling the crimeware. “

Just that sentence alone motivated me to install Power Eraser.

Norton Power Eraser is completely FREE with no ads to deal with in the background. It is super easy to install however you will have to give it about 5 minutes to run thru what it has to do and a small caveat it will ask you to restart your computer. But honestly it was worth it. It found two rogue files that I did not catch on my own. And I cleaned just about everything from msconfig to Add-ons and rouge programs.

Give it a try. Best of all its free.

If you have a Gmail account than this plugin is for you!

Have you ever wanted to schedule emails to send later? Or better yet, have you ever wanted to send follow up emails automatically? Boomerang for Gmail lets you take control of when you send and receive email messages. (This last sentence was copied straight from their site) Boomerang is available as a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. It is also available on mobile and android devices. Check it out its pretty cool. http://www.boomeranggmail.com/

I recently installed the plugin, and I must say it was relatively seamless. There is just one catch, it is free but for only 10 messages per month. There is always a hook. But i must admit I do appreciate their humor over at Boomerang. I scrolled down to read their FAQ, (I am a glutton for punishment) and this is their position as to why it is not totally free (Somewhat free is like, being half pregnant.)

From Boomerang FAQ:

  • OMG BUT I WANT IT ALL FOR FREEEE!

Without subscriptions, we cannot run our servers or feed our team — even ramen! Trust us, you’re not helping us buy Ferraris and Port-glazed Kobe Beef – more like a bike and a couple orders of Pad Thai.

Tom Sawyer Master Blueprint In Outsourcing

Tom Sawyer Master Blueprint In Outsourcing

Inspiration Uncategorized

Long before outsourcing and professional services (which is just a fancy term for contracting others to do work for you) there was Tom Sawyer, created by its author, Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by his pen name as Mark Twain.  In 1876, he wrote a book, which all things being considered equal was the book that really popularized outsourcing as we know it today, that book was, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

For those of you not familiar with the story, I will briefly explain. “In the 1840s an imaginative and mischievous boy named Tom Sawyer lives with his Aunt Polly and his half-brother, Sid, in the Mississippi River town of St. Petersburg, Missouri. After playing hooky from school on Friday and dirtying his clothes in a fight, Tom is made to whitewash the fence as punishment all of the next day. At first, Tom is disheartened by having to forfeit his day off. However, he soon cleverly persuades his friends to trade him small treasures for the privilege of doing his work.  He trades the treasures he got by tricking his friends into whitewashing the fence for tickets given out in Sunday school.”(from Wikipedia)

Now lets examine the definition of outsourcing, “outsourcing is the contracting out of a business process, which an organization may have previously performed internally or has a new need for, to an independent organization from which the process is purchased back as a service. ”

Although there are some slight nuances between what Tom Sawyer was able to achieve the more formal definition, one can only marvel at the ingenuity of this young boy, to outsource his chores, and in the process receive small treasures which later he used to trade with.

Now of course, this example is a bit rudimentary, but I think you get my point. The episode of Tom getting his friends to paint the fence and in doing so, complete a task, he otherwise dreaded, really helped to popularize outsourcing, or at least from my perspective growing up. The ability to persuade others to do work for you that you could otherwise do, but chose not to, in order to free more of your own time, was an invaluable skill that I learned as a child, which, I have to thank Tom Sawyer for his tutelage and mentor-ship, and leading by example.

It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.
Mark Twain

Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.
